Nigerian Leader Signs Bill Establishing Federal University Ogoni

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has signed a bill establishing Federal University of Environmental technology, Ogoni.

The Senate had  passed the bill for its creation, identifying the need for a dedicated institution to address certain issues and promote sustainable development through education.

The Nigerian Leader, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu says his assent to the Federal University of Environmental Technology Ogoni bill marks a significant milestone in the nation’s journey towards environment justice,education and sustainable development.
The President stated this on Monday at the State House, Abuja while signing into an act, the bill establishing the Federal University of Environmental Technology Ogoni,Rivers State.
President Tinubu also described the newly signed University act as a reaffirmation of his administration’s unwavering commitment to the people of Ogoni, the Niger Delta and the entire nation as a whole.
The President noted that the university act indicated decisive steps of his administration towards addressing historical grievances and creating opportunities for learning,growth and prosperity.
 
The President said “Ogoni has been in the forefront of our development and agitation, and has suffered environmental degradation True enough to bring knowledge into that environment. 
In that area, to me, is most significant thing, as you have heard from the Ministry of Education it’s more than the creation of a university. It is reaffirmation of our unwavering commitment to the people of Ogoni, the Niger Delta and the entire nation as a whole.
For decades, the Ogoni people have been at the forefront of fight for environmental restoration and sustainable development, shaping both national and global conversation of these critical issues. 
By signing this bill into law, we are taking a decisive step towards addressing historical grievances and creating new opportunities for learning, growth and prosperity.”
The President said that the University will serve as a center of excellence that would equip young Nigerians with the knowledge and skill to tackle present environmental challenges.
He added that the university will also drive clean energy solutions and contribute to national Sustainable Economic Development.
 
The President further commended the Ogoni delegations for their steadfast advocacy  for justice and building the confidence of the people.
The Nigerian Leader urged stakeholders, traditional institutions, the academic community, private sector, and partners and all other youth to embrace the University as a beckon of knowledge, Unity and progress.
Let me at this juncture thank the National Assembly, from the senate president to the speaker for all the members ,various committees that have seen through this bill. 
Let me also commend the Ogoni delegation Your stedfast advocacy for justice and building the confidence of our people in a peaceful manner is encouraging and it will be rewarding. I assure you

The new institution aims to provide academic and professional programmes with a focus on environmental technology and research, offering degrees at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels.

The establishment of the university is part of a broader effort to enhance educational opportunities in the region, specifically in light of the environmental challenges faced by the Ogoni people due to historical industrial activities.
