The Sokoto State Pilgrims Welfare Agency has urged National Hajj Commission (NAHCON) to extend the payments of 2025 Hajj by two weeks.

Acting Executive Secretary of the Agency, Alhaji Ladan Ibrahim, made the plea while updating Journalists on the agency’s preparation for this year’s Hajj.

He said that “when the deadline is extended more prospective pilgrims would complete their payments before the final deadline.”

He however expressed concern that many intending pilgrims, particularly from rural areas, are struggling to meet the payment deadline.

According to him, 5,216 Hajj slots were allocated to the state by NAHCON that requires more affordable time for intending pilgrims to settle the payments.

In the past, we were allowed to make payments even after Ramadan. We are confident that with a brief extension by NAHCON, all allocated slots will be fully subscribed.

” Because as I am talking to you now only 1,700 intending pilgrims made their initial deposits,” Alhaji Ibrahim said.

Ahead of the exercise, the Acting Executive Secretary noted that the agency has reached about 70% level of completion.

He stressed that the agency has secured accommodation in Mecca and Medina, finalised catering services, and arranged comfortable camp facilities for pilgrims.

Alhaji Ibrahim said; “the state has remitted over ₦5 billion to the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON) as part of the initial deposit and other expenses.”

He said that discussions are underway with the state government to provide additional financial support to assist pilgrims in meeting their obligations.

Last year, the Governor provided financial assistance to pilgrims, and the agency is hopeful that similar support will be available this year.

” I’m assuring the intending pilgrims that the agency remains committed to ensuring a smooth and spiritually fulfilling pilgrimage experience for all participants from Sokoto State,“Alhaji Ibrahim explained.

He appreciated Governor Ahmed Aliyu towards ensuring a successful Hajj exercise at all times.
