The National Environmental Standards and Regulations Enforcement Agency’s (NESREA) Director General, Dr Innocent Barikor, has underlined the organisation’s dedication to making sure that environmental considerations are given top priority when telecommunications infrastructure is being installed throughout the nation.

According to him, NESREA will implement laws that protect the environment and promote the expansion of the telecom industry.

According to Dr. Barikor, these installations have to abide by current environmental laws.

He made the pledge when two European businesses, Consulting & Management and Europe Ltd., visited his office to inform him about the EU-funded project in Nigeria called “EU Support to Federal Ministry of Communications, Innovation, and Digital Economy for Studies in Support of the 90,000km Fibre Optic Network and Improved Digital Literacy in Nigeria,” which is scheduled to begin in April of this year.

According to the NESREA DG, before the commencement of the project, due diligence would be done and the environmental effects of such a deployment would be examined.

Additionally, Dr. Barikor stated that residents must be made more aware of the issue.

The delegation’s leader, Prof. Muhammad Ladan, an expert in law and licensing, reassured the director general that the team was already implementing the required actions to guarantee compliance, particularly with regard to the project’s environmental impact assessment.

He went on to say that the team was at NESREA to interact and consult with key stakeholders on the project.
