The Executive Council of the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) has approved N3.6 billion for the construction of three Police Divisional Headquarters and staff quarters in Kuje, Gwagwalada and Kwali Area Councils

The Director of the Security Services Department, FCTA, Mr Adamu Gwary, disclosed this in Abuja while briefing journalists on the outcome of the FCT Executive Committee meeting, the first in 2025.

Gwary, a fellow of the Nigeria Defence College, said the move was to improve security infrastructure across the FCT.

He recalled that the FCT Minister, Mr. Nyesom Wike, had in September 2024 stressed the need to take security closer to the people, particularly those in satellite towns and rural communities.

He added that the minister also directed the provision of critical infrastructure, which includes the construction of Police Divisional Headquarters, two in each of the six area councils.

He explained that the construction of nine headquarters across the six area councils were approved and on the verge of completion.

“At that time, nine were approved and today, three others were presented and approved, making up two divisional headquarters in each of the six area councils.

“This is in line with the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Tinubu’s administration, through the provision of effective, efficient and adequate security for residents of the FCT.

“The support is equally in fulfilment of the FCT minister’s promise to provide adequate security in the city, satellite towns and the area councils, during his visit to the six area councils in 2024,” he said.

Gwary, who said that the support would continue, pointed out that the Wike-led FCTA had recorded significant progress in addressing crime and criminality in the FCT.

He said that the indices of insecurity were going down in the territory and reiterated the commitment of the FCTA towards reducing crime in the FCT. He urged security agencies to step up their game for the minister’s support to yield the desired results.

Earlier, the Chief of Staff to the minister, Mr Chidi Amadi, said that the FCT Executive Committee meeting was the first in 2025 and the 12th in the series under Wike-led FCTA.

Amadi explained that 12 memos were presented, out of which some were stepped down, some withdrawn, while others would be updated and represented.

According to him, about six of the memos were approved by the committee to provide critical infrastructure in the FCT.
