A prominent Governorship aspirant of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Professor Obiora Okonkwo, has positioned himself as the ideal candidate to unseat the current governor of Anambra State, Professor Chukwuma Soludo of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), in the coming governorship election scheduled for November 2025.

During a recent address to party stakeholders at the newly inaugurated APC State Secretariat in Awka, Okonkwo urged the APC National Chairman, Alhaji Abdullahi Ganduje, and the party’s National Working Committee (NWC) to endorse him as the consensus candidate for the elections.

“I am confident that I am the best candidate the APC can present to challenge the incumbent governor and bring about significant change,” he stated.

His appeal comes on the heels of Ganduje’s remarks during a strategic meeting with an APC support group known as “Booth 2 Booth with Bola Tinubu” in Abuja.

Ganduje emphasised the importance of a consensus candidate in avoiding the challenges and expenses associated with traditional primary elections.

In his address, Okonkwo highlighted the need for unity within the party, assuring party members that his governance would prioritize unprecedented growth, peace, and development for the people of Anambra State.

If elected, I promise to uphold the principles of good governance, transparency, and service to ensure that every resident, regardless of tribe or political affiliation, benefits from our policies,” he noted.

Transformation Policies

Okonkwo reaffirmed his commitment to supporting the transformation policies of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration, expressing his determination to work collaboratively to advance the vision of a greater Anambra State.

Reflecting on his past contributions to the party’s success, Okonkwo recalled his pivotal role in supporting the election of the first set of Senators and House of Representatives members under the Action Congress (AC) and Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) platforms.

“We have all played significant roles in elevating this party to its current stature, and today, we are here to finalize our bid for the keys to the government house in Awka,” he asserted.

The National Chairman of APC, Alhaji Abdullahi Ganduje, who commissioned the secretariat, described it as a step in the right direction, and clear sign that the State was prepared to embrace the party in the November 2025 gubernatorial poll.

Reclaiming Anambra

Ganduje, who reassured commitment of the National party towards reclaiming Anambra State from the ruling All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA) with a view to continue with national reconciliation, unity in diversity and development.

He said he was sure that winning the State on November 2025 gubernatorial poll would reconnect Anambra to the national for speedy development, as well as entrench internal democracy, security and economic recovery for businesses to thrive.

Cooperation

National Chairman, therefore, sought cooperation of the party chieftains at grassroots to make it achievable.

Also speaking, the National Secretary, APC, Senator Ajibola Basiru commended Anambra State for embracing the party which according to him, signifies that Governor Chukwuma Soludo of APGA has been given yellow card and would further receive red card at the main election.

The State Chairman of APC, Basil Ejidike urged intervention of the party in empowering their members with leadership positions and other enablement so as to emerge victorious at Governorship poll which he said they have articulated blueprint and guiding principles.

According to the National Woman Leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Dr Mary Alile, “Soludo is currently in a state of panic because what is coming in Anambra State is greater than him.”

She went on to boldly suggest that Soludo should begin preparing his handover note as Anambra was already a stronghold for the APC.
