To improve infrastructure across the state, the Jigawa State Government has Inaugurated a 9.5-kilometer Auyo-Ayama Road.
The newly constructed road was built by Alren Construction Company at the cost of N3.8 billion.
According to Governor Umar Namadi, the project, at the request of local communities, was extended to Ayama and reinforced with structures to prevent flooding.
He expressed confidence that the road would last and benefit residents for years to come.
He said, “it is worthy of note that, following popular demand by the catchment communities, we have extended the length of the road to Ayama and taken further initiative to redesign the road in order to safeguard it against the perennial floods this area is known for.
“This was done through additional hydraulic structures, additional embankment protections, and raising its level. We are confident that the road will last long, contributing to the socioeconomic development of the area and Jigawa State in general.”
He reiterated his administration’s commitment to completing all the inherited projects across the state.
“In the spirit of continuity in governance and our resolve to initially focus attention on the completion of all the inherited ongoing projects, I am delighted that today, about 90% of all the inherited road projects were completed and fully settled with an actual payment of over N50.7 billion.
“The only 2 remaining roads out of the 26 inherited would be completed in the coming weeks.”
Governor Namadi also said the state has launched 47 new road projects covering 977 kilometers at a cost of over N304 billion.
He noted that work on the project is progressing well, with some sites already more than halfway completed.
“Let me also mention that in line with our commitment to accelerate the momentum of progress in the development of Jigawa State, we have, in an unprecedented move last year, awarded contracts for 47 road projects covering a distance of over 977 kilometers to be executed at the cost of over N304 billion.
“These include seventeen (17) regional roads, fifteen (15) feeder roads, eight (8) township roads, and eight (8) road rehabilitations.”
The commissioning ceremony was performed by the Minister of Defence and the immediate former governor of the state, Alhaji Muhammad Badaru Abubakar.
He commended Governor Namadi for the initiative aimed at connecting rural communities.
Details of the engagement was contained in a press statement by Chief Press Secretary to Governor Namadi Mr Hamisu Gumel.
