Alhaji AbdulGaniyu Dare, Kwara Director, NOA, made the call on Tuesday in Ilorin during a news conference.

According to Dare, combating these diseases require the active involvement of media owners, as well as community and religious leaders.

The director said the collaboration would help to spread awareness about the dangers the illnesses posed to the community.

“As members of the press, you play a vital role, especially in disseminating accurate information, combating misinformation, and helping Nigerians understand preventive measures.

“There is an urgency of this awareness as peak seasons for these diseases approach.

“It is imperative that we strengthen awareness, improve community engagement, and implement preventive measures at all levels—individual, household, community, and government,” he added.

Dare also called on local government officials to intensify sanitation efforts and improve water supply, especially during the dry season, to prevent the spread of the diseases.

He also urged healthcare providers to prioritise early detection and response.

“Citizens must take responsibility by adopting personal and environmental hygiene practices to protect themselves and their communities,” he said.
