The Ahmadiyya Muslim Jama’at community has called for peaceful and harmonious co-existence among nations, urging both powerful and weaker countries to uphold justice and equality in global affairs.

Speaking at a press conference in Lagos, southwest Nigeria, the Managing Director of Muslim Television Ahmadiyya (MTA) International, Munir-ud-Din Shams, highlighted the growing instability in the world, describing the current state as a turbulent period with economic crises and increasing tensions resembling the prelude to the Second World War.

Equality and Justice

Mr. Shams emphasised the Islamic principle that all nationalities and races are equal, urging global leaders to grant equal rights without discrimination.

Citing Chapter 5, Verse 3 of the Holy Qur’an, he stressed the importance of absolute justice and equality in all matters, warning against the division between powerful and weaker nations, which he said fuels anxiety and discontent.

He pointed to the United Nations as an example of systemic inequality, where distinctions between nations have led to growing frustration.

He urged wealthy and powerful nations to respect the rights of poorer countries and called on weaker nations to avoid retaliatory harm against stronger nations when given the opportunity.

Islamic Perspective on Peace

According to Mr. Shams, Islam offers clear guidance for achieving peace, which includes absolute justice, honesty, and avoiding envy. He urged developed nations to set aside self-interest and instead support less developed countries with sincerity and selflessness.

“If despite all these aforementioned measures, any country transgresses all limits and attacks another country and seeks to unjustly take control of it’s resources, then other countries should certainly take measures to stop such cruelty, but they must always act with justice when doing so,” he stated.

Addressing Nigeria’s challenges, Mr. Shams emphasised the need for peaceful co-existence among the country’s diverse ethnic and religious groups. He urged the government to uphold transparency, justice, and good governance at all levels.

He called for transparent governance, economic reform, and the protection of fundamental human rights, including freedom of thought and religion.

“It is my hope and prayer that Almighty God bestows peace and security upon the world and Nigeria in particular,” he concluded.

Citizens’ welfare

In his address, the National Head (Amir) of Ahmadiyya Muslim Jama’at of Nigeria, AbdulAzeez Alatoye, called on the Nigerian government to prioritize citizens’ welfare in line with the country’s constitutional obligations.

He reminded leaders of Nigeria’s secular nature and urged them to be fair and considerate to all citizens, who form the backbone of society.

The event featured a visit to Ahmadiyya Hospital and Press Centre, a reading from the Holy Qur’an, a video presentation at MTA Nigeria Studio, and the presentation of the book “World Crisis and the Pathway to Peace.”
