The Minister of the Nigerian Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Mr Nyesom Wike, says the FCT Administration is concluding the engagement of contractors for waste management in satellite towns.

The Minister disclosed this while speaking in an interview with journalists in Abuja Nigeria’s capital.

The minister, who said that Abuja was clean, however, said he was not impressed with the contractors handling waste management in satellite towns.

He said that the effort was to tackle the menace of waste in satellite towns.

He acknowledged the sight of refuse scattered all over satellite towns, particularly by the roads.

As I speak to you now, I think we are almost done with the selection of the contractors that will be carrying out waste management in satellite towns.

“I believe in the next one week we would have been done with the selection – those that are competent; those we think can deliver.”

It could be recalls that Wike, on assumption into office as FCT minister on Aug. 21, 2023, promised that efforts would be made to strengthen waste management to keep the city clean.

Similarly, Mr Osilama Braimah, the Director, Abuja Environmental Protection Board, had disclosed that 40 contractors had been engaged to keep the capital city clean.
