Effiom, the Chief Executive Officer of I Paw Media Concept, made this appeal during an interview with the News Men on Thursday in Lagos.
He emphasized that integrating creative programs into both private and public school curricula could have a transformative impact.
“Subjects like art, music, drama, creative writing, and design not only enhance learning but also equip students with critical thinking and problem-solving skills,” he stated.
According to him, exposing students to the creative industry fosters a generation that is not only academically proficient but also capable of innovation and self-expression.
He, however, noted that many schools in Nigeria struggle to offer creative programs due to financial constraints, infrastructural challenges, and an overwhelming focus on traditional subjects like mathematics and science.
“While these subjects are essential, they do not cater to every student’s potential.”
According to him, creativity provides an alternative avenue for students to explore their talents, develop confidence and gain practical skills that can lead to fulfilling careers in entertainment, media, fashion and the arts.
He emphasized that limited exposure to these fields could prevent young people from reaching their full potential.
He further stated that integrating creative programs into public schools fosters inclusivity and social development.
According to him, this approach provides underprivileged students with opportunities that extend beyond their immediate circumstances.
Effiom also highlighted the importance of mentorship from industry professionals, noting that it can help bridge the gap between education and real-world opportunities.
“Creativity also enhances cognitive and emotional development as studies show that students engaged in the arts perform better academically, as creativity boosts curiosity, concentration, and memory.
“Beyond academics, creative fields offer viable career paths as Nigeria’s booming entertainment industry has shown that creativity is a major economic driver.
“Early exposure equips students with skills in graphic design, filmmaking and performing arts, thereby, in preparing them for future opportunities.
“Creative expression also builds resilience and emotional intelligence as art, music and poetry provide therapeutic outlets for students facing social and economic challenges, it reduces stress, boosts self-esteem and promotes mental well-being.”
