The National Commission for Migrants and Internally Displaced Persons (NCFRMI) will set up a committee to investigate irregularities in Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) Camps across Nigeria.

The Federal Commissioner, Tijjani Ahmed, announced this when he visited the IDP camp in Durumi, Abuja.

He said the idea for the investigation came on the heels of some revelations that most of the donations made to the persons of concern do not get to beneficiaries.

According to him, it is a disservice to the government when provisions are made for the persons of concern, but the items are being hoarded, diverted, or shared amongst a selected few.

“This committee that we are going to consider will have to go around all the IDP camps that we have around. To know whether this is also what is happening in other IDP camps. Certainly, we are going to extend our investigation.”

The Federal Commissioner also emphasised that arrangements are almost complete for the relocation of forty households from Abuja to Keffi in Nasarawa State, North Central Nigeria, where the resettlement city is located.

He noted that the profiling of those to be relocated was based on the interest shown by the persons of concern.

“Keffi is just about 60 kilometres away from Abuja here. Already those that are interested have been profiled and hopefully we will begin to look into relocating them in the next few weeks.”

He added that the resettlement city has all the basic amenities to make life easier and more comfortable for the IDPs.
