The newly appointed Council Chairman of the National Agency for the Great Green Wall (NAGGW), Senator Magnus Abbe, has stated that he will provide all necessary support and assistance to help the Agency achieve its mandate in line with President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.

Senator Abbe made this disclosure when he paid a familiarization visit to the Agency’s headquarters in Abuja, the nation’s capital.

He emphasized the Agency’s vital role in environmental sustainability and land restoration.

He noted that NAGGW was established by an Act of Parliament with the clear and specific purpose of restoring degraded lands and combating desertification.

He commended those who envisioned the Great Green Wall initiative as a means of securing the country’s future for generations to come.

The Chairman also called on the management team to adopt a fresh perspective on the Agency’s mission, think differently, and begin to perceive the Agency in a new light.

He assured the staff that he would contribute through advice, support, and recommendations aimed at increasing visibility and impact.

He emphasized that his presence as Council Chairman would support the Director General (DG), improve staff working conditions, and add value not just to the Agency but also to the country.

In his welcome remarks, the Director General, Mr Saleh Abubakar, assured the newly appointed Council Chairman of the Agency’s readiness to work fully in support of actualizing NAGGW’s mandate in combating desertification and restoring Nigeria’s drylands.

The DG acknowledged Senator Abbe’s pivotal role in the establishment of the Agency during his tenure as a member of the Senate Committee on Environment.

He expressed confidence that, given the Chairman’s passion and commitment to environmental sustainability, the Agency would benefit from his leadership in furthering its goals.

He also thanked Senator Abbe for his proactive visit and for showing keen interest in enhancing the Agency’s work.

The DG highlighted the importance of collaboration between the Agency’s leadership, staff, and various stakeholders in fulfilling its mission.

He noted that despite challenges, NAGGW had made significant strides in land restoration and combating desertification in Nigeria, particularly in the northern regions.

Senator Abbe’s visit was a step toward fostering a strong relationship between the Council and the Management, reinforcing the Agency’s commitment to environmental protection and sustainable land development across the country.
