Edo Assembly Hails President Tinubu for Sports University

Edo House of Assembly has lauded President Bola Tinubu for approving the establishment of the University of Sports in Afuze, Edo, describing it as a welcome development.

 

President Tinubu’ approval was announced in a statement by Samson Akhanieme, Chief Press Secretary, Office of the Leader, House of Representatives, Julius Ihonvbere, representing Owan West/East Federal Constituency on Feb. 11, 2025.

 

Speaking during plenary on Monday in Benin, Agbebaku noted that the decision underscored the Federal Government’s commitment to the promotion of sports education and talent development in Nigeria.

 

Advancement of sports

He emphasised that the university would not only serve as a hub for grooming world-class athletes but also contributed to the overall advancement of sports in the country.

 

The Speaker said that the establishment of the institution would have far-reaching economic benefits; as it would attract investments, create job opportunities in Afuze and its environment.

 

He added that the project would open up new avenues for infrastructural development, thereby enhancing the socio-economic landscape of the entire Owan region.

 

This is a welcome development and it will also be like the Ambrose Alli University, Ekpoma, that has impacted positively on the entire Esan land and it’s environs.

 

” It is a joy to the Owan nation and the joy and development will also extend to the people of Owan West that I represent, ” he said.

 

Agbebaku urged all stakeholders, including the Edo State government, traditional rulers, and community leaders, to support the successful takeoff of the university.
