BSADP urge farmers to embrace modern agric techniques
The Bauchi State Agricultural Development Programme (BSADP) has urged farmers to embrace modern agricultural practices to boost productivity and drive economic growth.
The BSADP Programme Manager, Ya’u Muhammad, made this call at the monthly sensitisation programme on Thursday in Bauchi state.
He emphasised that farming is no longer just a tradition but a viable business, with agriculture gaining global recognition.
According to him, knowledge is the cornerstone of progress, and without it, growth remains limited.
“One of our core mandates is farmer education, which is why we are traversing the state to enlighten farmers on modern farming techniques,” Muhammad stated.
He stressed that knowledge is fundamental to agricultural advancement and essential for growth in any sector.
Muhammad also encouraged farmers to adopt dry-season farming, outlining its advantages over rain-fed agriculture, which is often affected by flooding, drought, pests, and diseases.
“Dry-season farming provides farmers with greater control over environmental factors, unlike the rainy season, where unpredictable weather conditions pose challenges.
“We urge farmers to diversify into dry-season farming to ensure food security, job creation, and economic growth,” he added.
Also speaking, Hajiya Talatu Shehu, Director of Agriculture for Ganjuwa Local Government Area, commended the initiative, describing it as both educational and transformative.
She assured farmers of the council’s continued support and collaboration with BSADP to expand agricultural education across the local government.
On his part, the village head of Dabe, Alhaji Sanusi Saleh, expressed gratitude to BSADP for bringing the sensitisation programme to his community.
He appealed to the Bauchi state government to recruit more agricultural extension workers to enhance the spread of modern farming techniques.
“As farming becomes an increasingly profitable venture, the role of extension workers cannot be overstated.
“I also encourage my people to share the knowledge gained with fellow farmers to benefit the entire community,” Saleh said.
