African Leadership Magazine Honours NiMet DG For Exceptional Performance

The Director General and Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet), Professor Charles Anosike has been recognised for his outstanding leadership at the 2025 African Leadership Persons of the Year Awards hosted by the African Leadership Magazine.

Prof. Anosike received the African Public Sector Leadership Impact Award, a prestigious recognition of his transformative contributions to NiMet, particularly in advancing meteorological services, climate resilience, and innovative forecasting solutions in Nigeria and beyond.

His recognition underscores ‘NiMet’s growing impact in providing reliable weather and climate services, reinforcing Nigeria’s leadership in meteorology on the African continent.’

The award was presented by former President of Tanzania, H.E. Dr. Jakaya Kikwete, Chairman of the African Leadership Organization Advisory Board, alongside other dignitaries at the high-profile event held in Casablanca, Morocco.

The ceremony also honoured other distinguished African leaders, including:

  • President Andry Rajoelina of Madagascar – African Political Leader of the Year
  • President Bassirou Faye of Senegal – African of the Year
  • Governor Douye Diri of Bayelsa State – African Outstanding Good Governance Champion Award
  • Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf of Kano State – African Leadership Public Service Excellence Award
  • Olusegun Alebiosu, MD/CEO, First Bank of Nigeria Plc – Special African Banking Leadership Award & African Leadership Award for Banking Excellence and Financial Innovation
  • Dr. Seinye Lulu-Briggs, Executive Chairman, Moni Pulo Limited – African Philanthropist of the Year 2024
