Governor Ademola Adeleke of Osun State in southwest Nigeria, has sworn-in the 30 local government chairmen elected in last Saturday’s council elections in the state.
Governor Adeleke, while administering the oath of office to them at the Government House, Oke-fia, Osogbo, the state capital, described the event as a landmark occasion.
“It is with gratitude to God, the good people of Osun state and all lovers of democracy that I welcome you all to this landmark occasion. We are here to conclude a democratic process for which we all laboured so hard to achieve,” he said.
The Governor, who reminisced on the local government electoral process, noted that the state electoral body, OSSIEC, complied with all extant laws in conducting the election.
He explained that the emergence of the chairmen followed due process and was a product of the laws of the land.
“We are all aware of the journey to where we are. The state is today rounding up a process that started a year or so ago. The state electoral body had issued due notice of election a year ago.
“I know the commission had complied with all extant rules and procedures which led to the emergence of new local government chairmen and councillors,” Adeleke asserted.
Prioritise Good Governance
While congratulating the newly elected chairmen on their mandate, the Governor charged them to prioritise good governance by developing actionable plans that align with the manifesto of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the benefit of the people.
He charged them also to be change agents in the mould of his administration’s example by transforming their respective areas of influence for the better.
He says, “I charge you to develop plans of action within the manifesto of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). As our government is transforming the state for the better, I call on you to be agents of change, community developer and deliverer of dividends of democracy.”
Governor Adeleke then lauded President Tinubu for being a democrat and assured him of his administration’s commitment to the rule of law and the constitution in the area of governance and conflict resolution.
