Senior Police Officers Hold Retreat in Ogun state

More than 170 senior police officers gathered in Abeokuta, Ogun State, for the fifth edition of the Nigeria Police Force’s Annual Conference and Retreat.

The event, which began on February 24 and will run until February 27, 2025, is centered around the theme “Improving Nigeria’s Internal Security and Economic Prosperity Through Inclusive Policing.”

During the opening ceremony, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, represented by Vice President Kashim Shettima, stressed the need for greater collaboration between Nigeria’s security agencies to address challenges such as banditry, kidnapping, armed robbery, and other criminal activities.

He emphasised that while the Nigeria Police Force is tasked with maintaining internal security, it is essential for citizens and communities to work closely with the police to create a safer society.

Tinubu also highlighted that internal security is key to economic growth. He spoke of the reforms his administration has introduced since 2023 to address issues like mismanagement, unemployment, inflation, and infrastructure deficits.

He noted that the government’s investment in public-private partnerships, including projects in roads, railways, and energy, would help stabilise the economy and create jobs.

The president reiterated his commitment to strengthening the Nigeria Police Force through better training, infrastructure, and equipment.

Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, underscored the importance of the retreat in refining the police’s strategies and aligning them with the evolving global security landscape.

He emphasised the need for intelligence-driven policing to address emerging threats like cybercrime, terrorism, and transnational crime.

Egbetokun also discussed the strengthening of the National Cyber Crime Centre and other specialised units focused on financial crimes.

Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun commended the Nigerian Police for their role in maintaining peace and security in the state.

He promised continued support for law enforcement to enable them to carry out their constitutional duties effectively.

Other key figures at the event included,Chairman of the Police Service Commission, Hashim Argungu and the Kenyan Police Chief Douglas Kanja Kirocho amongst others.
