The Minister of Communications, Innovation, and Digital Economy, Dr Bosun Tijani, has encouraged Nigerians to fully utilise the newly inaugurated Nigeria-Korea Information Access Centre (IAC) to enhance their technological skills.

Speaking at the inauguration of the Nigerian-Korean IAC, themed “Empowering the Future through Knowledge, Research, and Innovation,” on Tuesday in Abuja, Tijani emphasised that the centre would not only accelerate the adoption of modern and emerging technologies but also create opportunities for young entrepreneurs.

“There are many young people worldwide who seek progress, and this is why the president is investing in technology to empower them.

“We also recognise that one of the best opportunities for growth lies in information and communication technology.

“Not only does it drive economic prosperity, but it also empowers individuals to contribute meaningfully to the world,” Tijani explained.

He further underscored the country’s significant investment in digital infrastructure, highlighting its importance in delivering efficient government services and strengthening the economy.

In his remarks, Dr Aminu Maida, the Executive Vice-Chairman of the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), stated that Nigeria was on the brink of a digital revolution.

He noted that the NCC had worked diligently to expand broadband penetration and enhance telecom infrastructure for technological advancement.

Maida explained that the IAC would support these efforts by providing a platform for learning, research, and innovation.

He urged stakeholders to ensure that the centre remained accessible to underserved communities, helping to boost digital literacy and serve as a launchpad for groundbreaking innovations.

“This Information Access Centre is part of a broader commitment to capacity building and learning initiatives in digital technologies.

“It will equip youth, entrepreneurs, and professionals with cutting-edge tools and training to thrive in the Fourth Industrial Revolution, driven by AI, Big Data, and IoT,” Maida said.

The South Korean Ambassador to Nigeria, Kim Pan-Kyu, expressed optimism that the newly established IAC would play a crucial role in unlocking Nigeria’s digital potential.

He reassured that Korea’s ongoing projects would continue to strengthen Nigeria’s digital capabilities for future generations.

“This centre will serve as a hub for digital education and innovation.

“Nigeria’s young talents will be trained, become leaders, and contribute to the growth of Nigeria’s digital economy,” Pan-Kyu added.

Mr David Daser, President of the Digital Bridge Institute, described the IAC as a vital link between Nigeria and the global digital space.

He explained that the initiative aligned with the National Digital Economy Policy and Strategy (NDEPS), which envisions a Nigeria where digital technology drives innovation and job creation.

Daser highlighted that the centre would promote digital inclusion, ensuring that Nigerians, regardless of their background, had access to ICT tools and skills.

“It will also foster expertise in emerging technologies like Artificial Intelligence (AI), the Internet of Things (IoT), Big Data, and cybersecurity,” he stated.
