The Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC), Anambra Command, has initiated a special operation to combat the proliferation of fake and unregistered number plates in the state.

The Sector Commander, Corps Commander Joyce Alexander, who revealed this in Awka on Thursday, expressed concern about the presence of non-registered, improperly registered, and un-uploaded number plates, citing them as potential threats to security in society.

Alexander lamented the fact that many properly registered number plates were not uploaded to the FRSC database, resulting in revenue loss and increased security risks for individuals. She stressed the importance of vehicle registration for road eligibility, effective data collection, policy-making, and facilitating vehicle transactions in the event of security incidents.

The Sector Commander mentioned that the national headquarters had instructed a crackdown on fake number plates nationwide, with operations already underway in Anambra. She urged all motorists to ensure their registered numbers are properly uploaded and criticized the non-use of registration plates among trucks and articulated vehicles.

Additionally, Alexander advised individuals seeking vehicle number plates to follow the appropriate channels and avoid engaging with unauthorized syndicates or agents.

She specifically called out the deliberate removal of number plates by some articulated vehicles to evade detection during illicit activities.

She further stressed the importance of complying with the joint registration process involving FRSC, State Board of Internal Revenue, and Vehicle Inspection Office.
