The Special Assistant to Ebonyi State Governor on Documentation, Dr. Boniface Nwankwo, has urged journalists to embrace development journalism in the course of their practice in the State.

Dr. Nwankwo stated this when he played host to the members of the Association of Izzi Media Workers in his office, Old Government House Abakaliki, the Ebonyi State capital.

Dr. Nwankwo, the immediate past National Publicity Secretary of the Association, described journalists as critical stakeholders in the society and urged them to always channel their efforts towards promoting development projects with their reports.

He poured encomiums on Governor Francis Nwifuru for finding him worthy to serve, and promised to do his best to make the Governor and the Ebonyi people proud of him.

“His Excellency, the Governor of Ebonyi State, Rt Hon Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru, has made very remarkable progress in building Ebonyi people, especially the youths.

“His empowerment programmes and infrastructural development projects have been life-touching since he assumed office.

“In education, health, security, and general welfare of the Ebonyi people especially in catering for the civil servants, retirees and youths, the Governor has shown capacity.

“All I have to tell you is to embrace development journalism, ensuring your reports are championed towards building a peaceful, united, and progressive society, knowing that, one day, God will reward us individually and collectively.”

Earlier, the new National President of the Association, Comrade Emmanuel Nwizi, represented by the Vice President, Comrade Innocent Nwuzor, explained that the visit was to congratulate Dr. Nwankwo on his appointment.

He thanked Governor Nwifuru for appointing seasoned Journalists and members of the Association into various positions of trust and described the gesture as a rare recognition since the creation of the Ebonyi State.

Nwizi declared the Association’s readiness to give unwavering support to the State Government while commending Governor Nwifuru for rolling out an all-inclusive governance as contained in his campaign manifesto, the People’s Charter of Needs.
