Google Announces Workforce Reductions Amid Internal Restructuring Efforts
Google has informed employees in its “People Operations” and cloud divisions about upcoming workforce reductions as part of organisational restructuring, according to a memo from HR chief Fiona Cicconi on Tuesday.
The company will introduce a voluntary exit program for U.S.-based, full-time staff in People Operations starting in early March, offering severance packages to mid- and senior-level employees.

This development follows remarks from Google’s finance chief, Anat Ashkenazi, who emphasised cost-cutting as a priority while ramping up investments in AI infrastructure throughout 2025.
Despite strong demand for AI products, Google reported fourth-quarter revenue that fell short of expectations, highlighting capacity limitations.
In addition, several teams within Google’s cloud division are facing cuts, primarily impacting operations support roles.
Some positions are also being relocated to other countries. Affected employees will have opportunities to explore different roles within the company.
A spokesperson for Google stated, “Our teams have continued to make changes to operate more efficiently, remove layers, and ensure they are set up for long-term success. This work is ongoing as we continue to invest in our company’s biggest priorities and the significant opportunities ahead.”
Earlier this year, Google offered buyout packages to employees in the “Platforms and Devices” unit, which oversees products like Android, Chrome, Google Photos, Pixel, and more.
The company reiterated its commitment to supporting impacted staff in compliance with local requirements.
