The announcement, made on February 27, 2025, has been met with excitement from industry stakeholders and fans. Actress Roselyn Ngissah took to Instagram to congratulate Gardiner on his new role.

“Congratulations my brother @jamesgardinergh on your appointment by the President as Deputy Executive Secretary of the NFA,” she said.

In a conversation with Graphic Showbiz, Gardiner expressed his readiness to collaborate with industry professionals to elevate Ghana’s film industry.

He clarified his role, noting, “I’m willing and ready to listen to concerns and how best we can work together to lift the industry right where it should be. Just for clarity, I’m serving as the deputy and not the main executive secretary.” The National Film Authority (NFA), established under the Development and Classification of Film Act, 2016 (Act 935), is responsible for implementing the legal framework governing film production, regulation, and development in Ghana. It also supervises the distribution, exhibition, and marketing of films and related activities.

Gardiner’s appointment comes as the NFA ramps up efforts to establish Ghana as a leading hub for film production and international co-productions.

Gardiner, renowned for his work in both the Ghanaian and Nigerian film industries, has long advocated for greater professionalism in Ghana’s movie sector. In a recent interview, he stressed the importance of adopting efficient industry practices and utilizing social media to rejuvenate the film landscape.

As Deputy Executive Secretary, he will collaborate with the current Executive Secretary to implement policies that create a supportive environment for filmmakers and attract investment into Ghana’s film industry.

Industry stakeholders are optimistic that Gardiner’s expertise and passion will play a crucial role in advancing the NFA’s mission and driving the growth of the sector.

This appointment underscores the government’s dedication to revitalizing the creative arts sector by entrusting leadership roles to experienced industry professionals. The film community is optimistic about the positive impact Gardiner’s leadership will bring.
