The Young Progressive Party (YPP) in Anambra state said it is intensifying efforts to reclaim the vacant senate seat for the Anambra South District, created by the passing of Dr. Ifeanyi Ubah.

During a recent sensitisation workshop held in Awka, the party’s National Secretary, Vidiyeno Bamaiyi, affirmed the party’s commitment to preparing for the upcoming elections, including the crucial governorship election scheduled for November 8, 2025.

Dr. Ifeanyi Ubah previously won the senate seat as a member of YPP before switching to the All Progressives Congress (APC) in a bid for the governorship, which he tragically did not survive.

Bamaiyi emphasised that, although the law necessitates an election to fill Ubah’s seat, the YPP is determined to seize this opportunity and reclaim what it considers its rightful place in the National Assembly.

We are re-strategising in the state for a greater performance and preparing to fully participate in all upcoming elections, both the bye-election and the governorship election,” Bamaiyi asserted. He noted that the YPP’s goal is to cultivate a new breed of leadership grounded in transparency and devoid of greed, promoting what they term a “ballot revolution.”

In conjunction with the impending elections, the YPP has commenced the sale of nomination forms for the governorship election.

Bamaiyi disclosed that the forms would be available starting March 1, 2025, and closing on April 8, 2025, with a special focus on encouraging female aspirants by offering the forms at no cost.

While the exact cost of the nomination forms for male candidates was not disclosed, Bamaiyi promised further details would follow.

Chaired by Chief Chinedu Umeadi, the YPP underscored its commitment to fostering a united, transparent, and inclusive political environment as it prepares for the electoral challenges ahead.

Umeadi noted the importance of grassroots mobilisation, urging party members to engage in door-to-door campaigns across the state’s 326 wards, emphasizing the party’s strong foundation across all 21 local government areas.

This workshop serves as a critical platform for us to brainstorm on building the Anambra of our dreams,” Umeadi explained.

“We believe the future of our state belongs to us, and it is our responsibility to shape it collaboratively.”

The workshop, themed “The Anambra of Our Dream: Re-strategising for a Better Future,” saw participation from party leaders, aspirants, and members, signaling the YPP’s readiness to take proactive steps toward revitalising its presence in Anambra politics.

Among prominent attendees was Honourable Benjamin Nwosu, a leading aspirant for the Anambra South Senatorial District bye-election.
