Egypt To Unveil Practical Gaza Reconstruction Plan
Egypt’s foreign minister has emphasized that his country’s plan to rebuild Gaza after 16 months of war is both practical and achievable without displacing its residents.
Badr Abdelatty made the remarks following a meeting with the Palestinian prime minister, just days before an Arab summit in Cairo, at which the Egyptian plan will be formally announced. Gaza has been devastated by the ongoing Israeli military campaign.
“The only way to break the cycle of violence and assaults is to establish a political horizon that gives the Palestinian people hope—hope that their legitimate aspirations for an independent state on their national soil can be realized,” said Abdelatty.
He stressed that Egypt’s reconstruction plan has clear, short-term timeframes that are “completely feasible and can be implemented without forcing anyone to leave their land.”
The proposal comes in contrast to a plan reportedly suggested by former U.S. President Donald Trump, who proposed relocating Gaza’s two million residents and transforming the enclave into a high-end development project. Trump envisioned the U.S. taking control of Gaza and rebuilding it into the “Riviera of the Middle East,” without allowing Palestinians to return.
Palestinian Prime Minister Mohammad Mustafa welcomed Egypt’s initiative, calling it a step toward unifying Gaza and the West Bank under a single Palestinian state.
“We aim to integrate all organizations—whether in services, administration, or security—under one state, with one system, one law, and one unified authority,” Mustafa said.
He added that his discussions with Abdelatty focused on securing support from other Arab nations, expressing hope that the upcoming summit would endorse Egypt’s plan and help move these efforts forward.
