At a prestigious ceremony in Abuja, Chief Mike Ozekhome, SAN, and 14 other distinguished legal practitioners were conferred with the rank of Life Bencher, the highest honor in the legal profession. The event, held at the Body of Benchers’ headquarters, was presided over by its chairman, Chief Adegboyega Awomolo, SAN.

The ceremony hosted an array of esteemed guests, including former Chief Justice of Nigeria, Hon. Justice Alfa Belgore, and former President of the Court of Appeal, Hon. Justice Umaru Abdullahi. Also in attendance were prominent legal figures such as Mrs. Gloria Umoren, SAN, and Chief Solomon Umoh, SAN. Former Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon. Yakubu Dogara, joined several distinguished Life Benchers and Benchers at the event.Esteemed human rights lawyer Sir Ifeanyi Ejiofor seized the moment to celebrate Ozekhome’s remarkable accomplishment.
“To the glory of God Almighty and in recognition of an illustrious career dedicated to the advancement of justice, legal scholarship, and the rule of law, we celebrate the remarkable elevation of my esteemed mentor, the distinguished Prof. Mike Ozekhome, SAN, CON, OFR, FCIArb, LL.D, to the prestigious rank of Life Bencher,” Ejiofor stated.
He highlighted that this honor reflects Ozekhome’s unwavering dedication to the legal profession, his exceptional brilliance as a legal luminary, and his relentless advocacy for justice and human rights.
“Prof. Ozekhome exemplifies the finest qualities of the Bar integrity, scholarship, and an unyielding dedication to the defense of the oppressed,” he added.
Ejiofor remarked that Ozekhome’s elevation joins him with distinguished jurists and legal icons whose wisdom and contributions shape the legal profession’s future. He expressed hope that Ozekhome’s legacy of excellence and mentorship would inspire generations of lawyers.
