Journalist Sets Up ₦2M Fund for UNN Best Graduating student

Arise News’ Anambra correspondent, Emeka Monye, has set up a ₦2 million endowment fund to honor the top Mass Communication graduate at UNN, Enugu State.

Monye unveiled the initiative at a university ceremony on Wednesday, highlighting his aim to foster academic excellence among Mass Communication undergraduates. He expressed his commitment to giving back to his alma mater and making a lasting impact.

A graduate of the department, Monye announced that the ₦2 million fund will be distributed over 10 years, awarding ₦200,000 annually to the top graduating student.

The Owerre-Olubor, Delta State-born journalist stated, “I hope that with this development, other well-meaning Nigerians, particularly journalists, will follow suit and, as a matter of urgency, encourage intellectualism in institutions of higher learning.”

In an acceptance letter, Leonard Ezeme, Senior Deputy Registrar and Head of the Career Services Centre at UNN, conveyed the university governing council’s gratitude, commending Monye’s initiative to promote academic excellence.

“We thank Emeka Monye of Arise News for his generous contribution to our university,” the letter read.

“We encourage you to be present or have a representative at the Prize and Awards Night Convocation Ceremony to witness the impact of your kind gesture.”

The letter concluded with the acting Vice Chancellor’s deepest appreciation and highest regards.
