The Nigerian Red Cross Society has taken a significant step in strengthening its partnerships and expanding its humanitarian reach.

The society’s president, Prince Oluyemisi Adeaga, said the move became necessary given the Society’s critical role in providing humanitarian aid across Nigeria and the need for greater local support.

Speaking when he led a delegation to the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi on a courtesy visit, Adeaga underscores the Society’s commitment to fostering collaboration with key stakeholders in Nigeria.

He noted with concern the lack of sustained funding from federal, state, and local governments, which has left the organisation reliant on foreign aid.

“We survive largely through international assistance because the three tiers of government have stopped supporting us,” the President stated. “We are here to seek your collaboration and ask that you connect us with individuals and government bodies that can support our work,” Prince Adeaga said.

In his response, the Ooni of Ife welcomed the delegation and reaffirmed his unwavering support for the Nigerian Red Cross Society.

He acknowledged the indispensable role of the Society in disaster response and humanitarian efforts, but highlighted the urgent need for enhanced public engagement.

“Technology has revolutionized humanitarian services. Stop acting like you are in 1950. You must engage the public on what you are doing. Without proper communication, the Nigerian Red Cross Society will suffer,” the Ooni stated.

He urged the NRCS to strengthen its communication strategy, leverage digital platforms and build strategic partnerships with corporate organisations and NGOs to increase visibility and attract more stakeholders and donors.

The Ooni further stressed the importance of accountability in humanitarian work, urging the NRCS to uphold transparency in its operations.

The partnership marks a pivotal moment in the Nigerian Red Cross Society’s mission to enhance its impact and sustainability through strategic collaborations within Nigeria.
