President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has launched the National Health Fellows Programme in Abuja, a pivotal component of his Renewed Hope Agenda, aimed at revitalising Nigeria’s primary healthcare system.

Upon completing their one-year tenure, the President assured the fellows of employment opportunities, declaring them hired.

This initiative underscores the administration’s commitment to improving healthcare infrastructure and service quality nationwide.

The President’s announcement came after Coordinating Minister of Health and Social Welfare, Prof. Muhammad Ali Pate, urged federal, state, and local governments to integrate the fellows into the workforce to support Universal Health Coverage.

The programme, approved in April 2024, aims to enhance accountability and efficiency in healthcare delivery, with fellows trained since February 27, 2025, under the Sector Wide Approach (SWAp) coordination office.

President Tinubu applauded the fellows as pioneers of a new era. Prof. Ali Pate highlighted their crucial role in driving innovation and supporting the ambitious plan to increase primary healthcare centers from 8,809 to 17,618 by 2027.
