Sokoto Governor Launches Support for Orphans, Needy Ahead of Eid-El-Fitr

In preparation for the upcoming Eid-El-Fitr celebration, the Sokoto State Governor, Ahmed Aliyu, has unveiled a comprehensive humanitarian program aimed at alleviating the suffering of orphans and needy persons across the state.
Governor Ahmed Aliyu officially launched the initiative, which encompasses the distribution of essential items, including foodstuffs, clothing materials and financial assistance, to 9,200 orphans and needy persons across the state’s 87 districts.
“Each of the 87 districts will identify 100 needy persons to receive support under the program, which is being implemented in collaboration with the Zakat and Endowment Agency.
“Under the initiative, the state government will distribute food items, including 50 bags of 50kg millet and 50 bags of 25kg rice, to each of the 87 districts.
“Additionally, 4,600 male orphans will receive bundles of Sharda each, while 4,500 female orphans will receive wrappers alongside ₦5,000 for sewing,” he stated.
Governor Aliyu emphasised the importance of supporting orphans and the needy. “Providing for them will certainly strengthen their moral behaviors and give them a sense of belonging.”
He added that the state Zakat and Endowment Agency will also distribute 500 bags of rice and millet
Societal decay
He also warned that neglecting this vulnerable group could lead to societal decay and an increase in social vices.
The governor urged well-to-do individuals in the state to invest in the welfare of orphans and needy persons, emphasizing the religious obligations outlined in the Qur’an and Sunnah of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH).
He encouraged the wealthy to take advantage of the opportunity to give back to the community and make a positive impact on the lives of those in need.
The Sokoto State Governor assured of his leadership’s determination to improve social welfare initiatives, pledging continued efforts to address youth restiveness, idleness, and other immoral behaviors among young people.
In his remarks, the Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar, thanked the governor for the gesture which would go along way to cushion the hardship face by people in the state.
The Sultan represented by Magajin Rafi of Sokoto, Rilwanu Bello, prayed to Almighty God to reward the Governor abundantly.
The ceremony, which took place at the Government House in Sokoto, was attended by a diverse range of dignitaries, including government officials, traditional rulers, Islamic scholars, politicians, businessmen, and other prominent members of the community.
