KADCHMA enrolls 50 women into Contributory Health scheme
In commemoration of International Women’s Day, the Kaduna Contributory Health Scheme (KADCHMA) has enrolled 50 pregnant women for free into its contributory health scheme. The enrollment, aimed at promoting the health and well-being of women in the state, was in partnership with Clinton Health Access Initiative (CHAI), a global health organisation committed to saving lives and reducing the burden of disease in low and middle income countries.

Flagging off the enrollment on Monday in Kaduna at a primary health care centre in Badarawa, Kaduna North LGA, the state’s Commissioner of Health, Hajiya Umma Ahmed, said the importance of free health services cannot be overemphasised, especially for vulnerable populations like pregnant women.
Ahmed, represented by Aisha Tukur, Executive Secretary of the state’s Health Supplies Management Agency, said by providing free health services, the government is not only promoting the health and well-being of women in the state but also reducing the financial burdens that often prevent people from seeking medical care.
“This is particularly significant in low-income communities where the cost of healthcare can be prohibitively expensive. Free health services also have a ripple effect on the community, contributing to a reduction in disease outbreaks and improving overall public health. When people have access to free healthcare, they are more likely to seek medical attention early, reducing the risk of complications and transmission of diseases. Moreover, free healthcare services can help alleviate the burden on hospitals and healthcare systems, allowing them to focus on providing quality care to those who need it most”, she said.
She urged the beneficiaries to make maximum use of the scheme and encouraged others to attend hospitals for medical care.
Bungwon, added that KADCHMA has consistently demonstrated its commitment to improving the health and well-being of the people of Kaduna State.
Through initiatives like the free enrollment of pregnant women into its contributory health scheme, she said KADCHMA is working tirelessly to ensure that everyone has access to quality healthcare, regardless of their financial situation.
She highlighted the importance of promoting women’s health and empowerment, citing the support of partners like CHAI.
Dr Yahuza Muhammad, Health Secretary of the Kaduna North LGA, noted that the initiative would help reduce maternal mortality, which is a key agenda of the Kaduna state government.
By enrolling 50 pregnant women into the KADCHMA scheme, Muhammad said the initiative aimed to provide access to quality healthcare services, ultimately contributing to a decline in maternal deaths.
“This effort aligns with the global goal of reducing maternal mortality, as outlined by the World Health Organisation, which stresses the importance of access to a continuum of care before, during, and after pregnancy and childbirth”, he said.
He restated the local government authority’s commitment in ensuring the health and well-being of its people. The event also featured free medical screening of various ailments.
