The Kebbi State Government has committed to implementing 35% affirmative action for women before the end of the year, marking a significant step toward gender equality in the state.

Speaking at the International Women’s Day celebration held at Government House, Birnin Kebbi, the Wife of the State Governor, Dr. Zainab Nasir Idris reaffirmed the administration’s dedication to women’s empowerment.

She highlighted ongoing efforts, including the appointment of nine women to political positions and 25 women as councillors across various local government areas.

Dr. Idris also lauded the impact of the Nasare Foundation, which has empowered over 10,000 women with skills training and financial support to start their businesses.

Additionally, she noted that the Talle Tara centre, established under the Nasare Foundation, has been actively advocating against gender-based violence, securing life imprisonment sentences for over 50 offenders.

Dr. Idris further outlined her strategy to sensitise parents on reducing over-reliance on Al’majiri teachers, emphasizing the need for a more structured educational approach for children.

She expressed gratitude to Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu for launching the Renewed Hope Initiative, which has encouraged women in Kebbi State to engage in dry-season farming and gardening.

The Governor’s wife urged political leaders and affluent individuals to support the less privileged, emphasising the importance of collective efforts in uplifting women and fostering inclusive development
