The Dangote Foundation has launched a nationwide food intervention programme, distributing 10kg bags of rice to 120,000 beneficiaries in Kano State, Northwest Nigeria.
Speaking at the flag-off ceremony at Government House, Kano, Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf commended Alhaji Aliko Dangote’s unwavering commitment to supporting the less privileged, especially during Ramadan.
He said; “This act of generosity will help alleviate hardship and inspire others to contribute to the fight against food insecurity and poverty.”
To ensure transparency, the Governor announced the establishment of a committee to oversee the distribution process, urging its members to act with sincerity and fairness.
He was represented by the Deputy Governor, Aminu Abdulsalam.
Representing the Dangote Group, Hajiya Maria Aliko Dangote highlighted the foundation’s commitment to aiding vulnerable Nigerians, noting that the one million rice distribution complements ongoing feeding programmes.
“Our foundation has provided daily feeding initiatives since the 1990s and now offers Iftar meals to 5,000 fasting Muslims daily,” she stated.
Hajia Dangote reaffirmed the foundation’s dedication to improving lives and advancing nutrition, including efforts in food fortification such as iodized salt and vitamin A-enriched sugar.
“Food security is fundamental to human well-being. Every person deserves sufficient, safe, and nutritious food for a healthy life,” she added.
