Turin’s Special Olympics World Games witnessed an exhilarating day of competition, with athletes from around the globe showcasing their unwavering determination and impressive skills across various sports.

The event’s busiest day yet featured eight medal ceremonies, including alpine skiing and cross-country skiing. A highlight of the day was the electrifying floorball match between Namibia and Kenya at the Inalpi Arena.

In this intense all-African clash, both teams, relatively new to the sport, demonstrated remarkable competitiveness in the group stages. Kenya ultimately emerged victorious with a 3-0 win, showcasing their rapid adaptation to the game.

Despite the loss, Namibian player Quinton Gaeb remained optimistic, expressing pride in representing his country. “We gave it our all, but Kenya outplayed us. It was tough, but we enjoyed the game. I’m proud to represent Namibia,” Gaeb said.

In alpine skiing, Mexico’s Alexia Ampudia Ramirez De Arrellano secured a silver medal, cheered on by her supportive family, who played a vital role in her training and success.

Great Britain’s Alice Willans made a remarkable comeback in the same event, winning gold just a day after being disqualified from her previous race.

Meanwhile, Denmark’s Nuka-Martin Lynge, who resides in Greenland, delivered a personal-best performance in the cross-country event, finishing fourth with enthusiastic support from the crowd.
