TETFund Unveils 2025 Disbursement Plan, Allocates N2.8bn Per University

The Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund) has released its 2025 disbursement guidelines, allocating substantial funds to public universities, polytechnics, and colleges of education across Nigeria.

Speaking at a strategic workshop with heads of institutions, TETFund Executive Secretary, Sonny Echono announced that each university will receive N2.86 billion, comprising N2.56 billion as normal allocation and N300 million as zonal allocation.

Polytechnics will receive N1.99 billion each, while colleges of education will get N2.17 billion, both with zonal allocations of N200 million.

Echono emphasised that, in line with the Nigerian Government’s directive, the 2025 disbursement will focus on upgrading, rehabilitating, and renovating dilapidated infrastructure in beneficiary institutions.

The 2025 disbursement is structured as follows: 91.08% for direct disbursement, 8.72% for designated projects, and 0.20% for stabilization funds,” he explained.

Key initiatives under the Special Direct Disbursement category include;

  • Increased funding for the Special High Impact Programme (SHIP)
  • Completion of the National Library building in Abuja
  • Establishment of mechanized farms in select universities
  • Expansion of student hostels through public-private partnerships (PPP) and
  • Enhancing medical education infrastructure and adopting medical simulation technology.

Others are ;

  • Providing alternative power sources for institutions struggling with high energy costs and
  • Strengthening campus security and disaster recovery measures

Echono also announced plans to establish 12 new Entrepreneurship for Innovation Hubs in polytechnics and colleges of education, promote digital resources, and enforce full utilisation of the Tertiary Education Research and Application System (TERAS) platform.

He urged heads of institutions to fully utilise their 2024 and previous allocations while fast-tracking procurement processes to access their 2025 funds.
