IGP Reaffirms Commitment To Press Freedom, Civic Space Protection

The Inspector-General of Police, IGP, Kayode Egbetokun has reaffirmed the Nigeria Police Force’s commitment to press freedom and the protection of civic space within a democratic society.

He made this pledge during a courtesy visit by the Director-General of Voice of Nigeria, VON, Mallam Jibrin Baba Ndace, at the Force Headquarters in Abuja.

IGP Egbetokun emphasised the importance of collaboration between the Police and media organisations to promote transparency and accountability.

In his remarks, the Director-General of Voice of Nigeria, Mallam Jibril Ndace  commended the IGP’s leadership and acknowledged the Force’s proactive efforts since his assumption of office.

Mallam Ndace also highlighted the critical role of the Police in maintaining public safety and order while supporting the fight against disinformation that could harm public perception of the Force and the nation.

In response, IGP Egbetokun expressed gratitude to VON for recognising the Police Force’s efforts.

The Police boss welcomed VON’s partnership in promoting a positive image of the NPF and countering fake news.

IGP Egbetokun reiterated the Force’s dedication to serving Nigerians with integrity and professionalism, adding that the NPF remains open to constructive feedback to enhance its service to the nation.
