The Jigawa State Government and the United Nations Children’s Fund , UNICEF, have signed a multi-year work plan (2025-2027) to enhance the protection, survival, and development of children and women in the state.

The plan outlines key targets requiring substantial resources, with Jigawa State expected to contribute its share of funding. It focuses on three priority areas: water and sanitation, education, and economic empowerment.

The signing ceremony at the Government House in Dutse was attended by Governor Mallam Umar Namadi, Mr. Rahama Rihood Mohammed Farah, Chief of the UNICEF Field Office in Kano, and other dignitaries.

Governor Namadi reaffirmed Jigawa’s long-standing partnership with UNICEF, noting its consistent support since the state’s creation in 1991.

He said; “As I have always observed, UNICEF is the oldest development partner that has continuously supported Jigawa State since its creation in 1991, that is over a third of a century ago.”

The Governor pledged full implementation of the work plan, ensuring that every child in Jigawa has the opportunity to be protected, thrive, and reach their full potential in a supportive environment.

The 3-year work plan aligns with Jigawa State’s 12-Point Agenda and UNICEF’s Country Programme of Cooperation, prioritizing basic education, health, nutrition, water and sanitation, child protection, and social policy.

UNICEF’s Rahama Farah commended the state government’s dedication to improving children’s and women’s well-being.

Farah urged increased domestic resource allocation to sustain progress, especially as global donor funding declines.

The signing of this work plan formalizes yet again our partnership, holding immense promise for the children and families of Jigawa State,” he said.

A statement by Governor Namadi’s Chief Press Secretary, Hamisu Gumel, directed all relevant ministries, departments, and agencies (MDAs) to ensure full implementation of the plan.
