The Presidency in Nigeria has stated that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu remains committed to promoting peace and religious tolerance across the country.

This statement was made by the Special Adviser to the President on Policy Communication, Daniel Bwala, on his verified X handle @BwalaDaniel, in response to the recent approval by the US Congress for sanctions on Nigeria over alleged Christian killings.

Bwala asserted that the US Foreign Relations Committee report falls short of proper context and timeliness.

He highlighted that since President Tinubu assumed office on May 29th, 2023, there have been minimal to no reported cases of Christian persecution anywhere in Nigeria.

“The administration of @officialABAT President Bola Tinubu promotes religious tolerance. Since May 29th, 2023, when President Tinubu assumed the office as President, there have been little or no case at all of persecution of Christians anywhere in the country.

“President Bola Tinubu remains committed to promoting peace and religious tolerance.”

It would be recalled that the Chairman of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) in the North, Rev. Yakubu Pam, recently noted that incidents of Christian persecution have declined in Nigeria.

Pam highlighted the improvements to include reduction in discrimination in land acquisition for church buildings and fewer cases of forced conversions and marriages of young Christian girls.
