A SpaceX capsule has docked at the International Space Station (ISS), enabling astronauts Butch Wilmore and Suni Williams to prepare for their return to Earth after an extended nine-month stay.

Originally scheduled for just eight days, their mission was prolonged due to technical issues with Boeing’s Starliner spacecraft.

NASA opted to bring them back on SpaceX’s Dragon capsule during a scheduled crew rotation to ensure safety.

The astronauts will begin their journey home after a two-day handover, pending favorable weather conditions.

NASA emphasised that the decision prioritised the astronauts’ well-being, despite Boeing’s objections.

The extended mission has had personal costs for the astronauts, but they expressed gratitude for their time aboard the ISS.
