The explosion, which occurred late Monday night near the ongoing Bodo-Bonny Road construction site, triggered a massive fire, with thick black smoke billowing into the atmosphere. Video footage that surfaced on Tuesday morning showed the fire rapidly spreading into the surrounding mangrove forest.
The Trans-Niger Pipeline is a federal transport line that supplies oil to the Bonny Export Terminal in Rivers State.
It was gathered that the incident occurred near Bodo-Bonny Road, which is currently under construction by Julius Berger Nigeria Plc through a joint funding partnership between Nigeria LNG Limited and the Federal Government of Nigeria.
The Federal government had projected a crude oil production of 2.06 million barrels in its almost N55 trillion 2025 budget, pegging it at $75 per barrel oil price for the year.
Nigeria currently relies heavily on crude oil production for the larger part of its revenue. The budget anticipates total revenue of N36.35 trillion, with oil revenues expected to contribute 56 per cent of government income.
