The Chief of Defence Staff, CDS, Gen. Christopher Musa has reaffirmed the commitment of the Nigerian Armed Forces to United Nations, UN, peacekeeping operations.

Speaking during a meeting with the UN Resident and Humanitarian Coordinator in Nigeria, Mr. Mohammed Fall, Gen. Musa emphasised the importance of ‘strong civil-military relations.’

He noted that non-kinetic approaches often yield greater impact than military force alone.

Collaboration

General Musa urged the UN “to collaborate with state governments to facilitate the safe return of displaced persons and refugees to their communities.”

He also called for strengthened partnerships to enhance global security.

In response, Fall commended Nigeria’s longstanding contributions to UN peacekeeping missions, describing the relationship between the UN and the Nigerian military as mutually beneficial.

He acknowledged Nigeria as one of the leading contributors to UN peacekeeping efforts and emphasized the country’s crucial role in promoting stability across Africa and beyond.

Highlighting Nigeria’s significance on the global stage, Fall called for increased support for the Nigerian Armed Forces, citing the nation’s demographic strength and leadership position in Africa as key factors in its strategic importance to the UN.

This was disclosed in a statement by the Director of Defence Information, Brig.-Gen. Tukur Gusau, in Abuja.
