The Civil Society Scaling Up Nutrition in Nigeria (CS-SUNN) in collaboration with the Federal Ministry of Budget and Economic Planning (FMBEP) has successfully trained members of the Kaduna State Committee on Food and Nutrition (SCFN) on the use of the upgraded Performance Management System (PMS).

The two-day training, which concluded on Wednesday in Kaduna, aimed to strengthen the committee’s capacity to plan, monitor, and evaluate nutrition-related interventions more effectively across the state.

The initiative forms part of wider efforts to institutionalise a results-driven approach in the implementation of food and nutrition programmes within Kaduna State.

Chairman of SCFN and Permanent Secretary, State Planning and Budget Commission, Mr Bashir Muhammad, commended the training, noting that the committee had been instrumental in coordinating various activities aimed at reducing malnutrition in the state.

“The upgraded PMS will help us better understand what has been achieved so far and what areas require more attention. It will significantly enhance our reporting and tracking systems, allowing us to improve the nutritional status of our people,” he said.

Speaking during the session, Ms Hope Ikani, Programme Officer at CS-SUNN Abuja, explained that while the PMS had been in use for some time, it was originally a manual tool.

The system was digitised in 2020 and has now been further upgraded for better usability.

“This new version is more user-friendly and allows for real-time data entry and analysis. The training covered login procedures, completing digital questionnaires, and interpreting data on the dashboard,” she noted.

Ikani highlighted that the PMS will support targeted planning, monitoring, evaluation, and advocacy by offering critical data for evidence-based decision-making.

Also speaking, Mr Alaka Oladimeji, Chief IT Officer at the FMBEP, said the upgraded platform introduces new capabilities, including real-time data capture, automated analytics, and cross-sector collaboration.

“This tool is instrumental in helping the state make data-driven decisions, track nutrition indicators, and measure the impact of ongoing programmes.

“The Ministry is committed to supporting Kaduna State in reducing malnutrition and improving health outcomes,” he affirmed.

The SCFN draws its membership from key ministries and institutions, including Health, Agriculture, Education, the Media, and NAFDAC, alongside development partners such as ANRiN, Muslim World League, Alive and Thrive, and GAIN.

The Performance Management System is a digital platform designed to increase transparency, accountability, and efficiency in public programme implementation, with the upgraded version promising even greater impact in the fight against malnutrition in Kaduna State.
