The Abuja Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ACCI) has eulogised Nigeria’s late former President Muhammadu Buhari, praising his uncommon commitment to fostering public-private sector collaboration and institutional strengthening during his tenure (2015 – 2023).

The President of the Chamber, Dr Emeka Obegolu, in a statement in Abuja said the former leader’s administration consistently engaged with the Chamber and the organised private sector while integrating recommendations into national policies and reforms aimed at boosting economic growth.

“Notably, his pivotal role in the commissioning of the ACCI Business and Exhibition Complex was a landmark moment in the history of the Chamber movement in Nigeria, a testament to his belief in creating enabling environments for businesses to thrive.

We also remember his administration’s social investment initiatives, such as the Government Enterprise and Empowerment Programme (GEEP), N-Power, and others, which significantly supported Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs), created jobs, and reduced poverty.

We join the entire nation in mourning a resolute leader, statesman, and disciplined patriot whose unwavering dedication to Nigeria’s unity and development will remain indelibly etched in our national history,” said the ACCI’s President in a tribute.

He noted that the ACCI, in solidarity with the nation, has lowered its flags at its various offices, in mourning and reflection on his invaluable contributions to Nigeria’s progress.

“We extend our heartfelt condolences to the Buhari family, his close associates, and all Nigerians as we pray for the repose of his soul,” he wrote.

Former President Muhammadu Buhari passed away at the age of 82 on Sunday, 13 July 2025, at a hospital in London after a prolonged illness.
