President Tinubu is presiding over an expanded Special Valedictory Session of the Federal Executive Council (FEC) held in honour of the late former President and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, Muhammadu Buhari.
The session, which began at 5:27 pm on Thursday at the Council Chamber of the State House, Abuja, commenced shortly after President Tinubu arrived.
At 5:15 pm, Yusuf Buhari, accompanied by his siblings and other family members, entered the chamber and took their seats immediately to the left of the President.
Cabinet members arrived earlier from 4:30 pm, most dressed in black or white, reflecting the solemnity of the occasion.

In his tribute, President Tinubu, who chaired the session clad in white, said the late former President Buhari in death maintained the serenity that defined him in life, with quiet submission to the will of God.
“The late President Buhari was a decent good man and an honourable man,” the Nigerian Leader said.

The special council session, convened in honour of Buhari, served as a platform to reflect on his dedicated service and enduring legacy as Nigeria’s President and Commander-in-Chief for two consecutive terms.
Dignitaries and council members used the solemn gathering to pay tribute to the late Head of State’s achievements and acknowledge his impact on Nigeria’s political and socio-economic landscape.
President Tinubu had earlier declared a seven-day national mourning in honour of the late General Buhari and ordered all national flags flown at half-staff across the country.

Nigerians also observed a public holiday on Tuesday, 15 July, to mark the burial of the former two-term President and former Military Head of State.
Among those present at the expanded session were Vice President Kashim Shettima; Senate President Godswill Akpabio; Deputy Senate President Barau Jibrin; Speaker of the House of Representatives Tajudeen Abbas; Deputy Speaker Benjamin Kalu; Secretary to the Government of the Federation George Akume; Chief of Staff to the President Femi Gbajabiamila; Deputy Chief of Staff Ibrahim Hadejia; and Head of the Civil Service of the Federation Didi Walson-Jack.

Also in attendance were the Chairman of Nigeria’s Governors’ Forum Abdulrazaq Abdulrahman, the Chairman of the Progressives Governors Forum, Hope Uzodinma, and many cabinet members.
