The Jigawa State Government, in collaboration with Qatar Charity (a humanitarian and development non-governmental organisation (NGO) in the Middle East), has empowered 60 residents with livelihood support equipment, with the aim of boosting economic self-reliance across the state.

Governor Umar Namadi presided over the official handover ceremony at the Government House Banquet Hall in Dutse, the Jigawa State capital.

The event was attended by the Qatari Ambassador to Nigeria, Dr Ali Bin Ghanim Al-Hajri, and the Country Director of Qatar Charity in Nigeria, Sheikh Hamdi Abdou.

As part of the initiative, 20 passenger tricycles (Keke NAPEP), 20 cargo tricycles, and 20 multi-purpose grinding machines were distributed to selected beneficiaries.

The equipment, designed for durability and utility, is intended to support small-scale enterprises and income generation.

In addition, Qatar Charity donated 100 emergency tents to the Jigawa State Emergency Management Agency to strengthen its disaster response, particularly during floods.

Governor Namadi expressed gratitude for Qatar Charity’s continued contributions to social development in Jigawa State, recalling their visit in January 2025 during the commissioning of a Community Development Centre in Hadejia.

That project featured residential housing, classrooms, a mosque, and a water scheme.

“These interventions support our agenda for human capital development and align with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), especially SDGs 1 to 6—focused on poverty reduction, health, education, gender inclusion, and access to clean water and sanitation,” said the governor.

In recognition of Qatar’s support, Governor Namadi announced the naming of key infrastructure in Dutse, the state capital, after Qatari leaders:

Qatar Street –situated along Sani Abacha Way to Ibrahim Aliyu Bypass; Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani Street, which begins from the Yalwawa Junction to FUD Madobi Road; and H.H. Sheikh Tamim Bin Hamad Al-Thani Mega Tsangaya School – a flagship educational facility under construction.

“To show our appreciation, the State Executive Council approved the naming of two township roads and a new Mega Tsangaya School in honour of Qatar’s leadership.

This isn’t just about giving—it’s about building something meaningful, based on mutual respect and a shared commitment to lifting people up. Jigawa is proud to be part of that effort,” said Governor Namadi.

The Qatari Ambassador formally commissioned the new roads and inspected progress on the Mega Tsangaya School project.

To further assist beneficiaries, the state government will provide each with a grant of ₦50,000 to support their business start-up costs.

They will also sign agreements to ensure responsible use of the equipment, monitored by Qatar Charity in partnership with the Jigawa State Youth Empowerment and Employment Agency.

In his remarks, Ambassador Al-Hajri praised the Jigawa State Government for its achievements in education, agriculture, infrastructure, and social development.

“Jigawa stands out for its strong governance, economic stability, and security. Your vision for the state is commendable,” he noted.

Details of the engagement were in a press statement by the Governor’s Spokesperson, Hamisu Gumel.
