Plateau State Governor in north-central Nigeria, Caleb Mutfwang, has pledged his administration’s support to the Citizenship and Leadership Training Centre (CLTC) for the development of its Mountain School located at Shere Hills in Jos, the state capital.

Governor Mutfwang made the commitment during a courtesy visit by the Director-General of CLTC, Ms. Rinsola Abiola, and her team.

He gave assurance that the state government would back the centre through budgetary reviews and capacity-building initiatives to enhance training opportunities for participants.

Natural heritage

Expressing concern over quarry activities that threaten the historic rocks surrounding the training school, the governor vowed to protect the natural heritage and ensure its preservation.

He also commended CLTC for its invaluable contributions to citizenship and leadership development across the country.

Ms. Abiola applauded the governor’s developmental strides, including road infrastructure, social services, and peacebuilding efforts that have fostered unity among Plateau’s diverse ethnic groups.

She further expressed appreciation for the state’s consistent support, particularly towards the Plateau Youth Peace Camp 2025, facilitated through the Plateau State Peace Building Agency.

The DG appealed for deeper collaboration with the state government, highlighting the need for expanded training opportunities for youth and women, increased training capacity, improved infrastructure, and the construction of a mini-water treatment plant to cater for participants.

The governor gave assurance that her requests would be given due consideration.

She stressed that the Mountain School at Shere Hills has trained thousands of Nigerians across junior, intermediate, senior, executive, women, and special courses since it was commissioned in 1970 by then Head of State, Gen. Yakubu Gowon.

The event was attended by the Deputy Governor, Her Excellency Ngo Josephine Piyo, Secretary to the State Government, Mr. Samuel N. Jatau, Chief of Staff, Mr. Jeremiah Satmark, Head of Service, Mr. Stephen Pam Gadong, other members of the State Executive, and the CLTC Team.
