Sokoto First Lady Empowers Girl-Child Education

The Wife of Sokoto State Governor, Dr. Fatima Ahmad Aliyu, has flagged off the Conditional Cash Transfer (CCT) Programme under the Adolescent Girls Initiative for Learning and Empowerment (AGILE) project to promote girl-child education.

The programme aims to empower 41,825 girl-child education as the first batch across the state for sustainable development.

Mrs. Aliyu emphasized that the initiative represents a milestone in the state’s commitment to promoting girl-child education.

According to her, “the initiative would go a long way in reducing school dropouts and empowering households to support their daughters’ educational pursuits.”

She commended the beneficiaries for their dedication and urged them to use the funds wisely to ensure sustained impact.

The Wife of the Governor further reassured the commitment of the Governor Aliyu-led administration towards repositioning the state’s education sector.

On her part, the National Project Coordinator of the project, Mrs. Amina Buba Haruna, stated that “the uniqueness of the AGILE project lies in its three-pronged mantra of Education, Skills acquisition, and Empowerment for all adolescent girls that come under its purview.”

She said “every project has two critical phases, which are timely delivery and efficiency for the benefit of all the target beneficiaries.

“And secondly, it is to ensure that states, and indeed, the nation, get the best value for money in delivering the project.”

She commended the effort of the state government and support for the AGILE program in the state.

In his welcome address, the Sokoto state project Coordinator, Dr Mansur Isah Buhari expressed gratitude to the governor of Sokoto state, Dr Ahmad Aliyu, for his enthusiasm and support for the project.

He stated that “within the first year of implementation, the project has achieved significant progress in improving the learning atmosphere through the renovation of classrooms and the provision of teaching and learning materials across Junior and Senior Secondary Schools in the state.”

The state coordinator said that the Conditional Cash Transfer, a core component of the AGILE project, is designed to provide direct financial support to families.

He encouraged them to keep girls in school and foster an enabling environment for their academic success.

The ceremony was attended by senior government officials, education stakeholders, representatives of development partners, traditional leaders, and community members who applauded the initiative as a strategic investment in the future of Sokoto State.

With the flag-off, Sokoto joins other states in scaling up the CCT program, reinforcing the collective drive to transform education and empower adolescent girls for a brighter future.
