The Federal Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs disaster management and social development in collaboration with the Borno State Government has commenced the National home grown school feeding programme.
The programme is aimed at providing nutrious meals to all pupils in public primary school from primary 1 to 3 across the state.
The Federal Minister of Humanitarian Affairs disaster management and social development, Sadiya Umar Farouq who was represented by the Ministry director and zonal monitor Ali Grema at the occasion said ” the Enumeration has taken place severely at different stages in all the states of the federation.
” This time around there’s a difference from the usual headcount we did in the past, this time around the process is quite advanced, it will involve biometric capture”.
“Every child from primary 1 to 3 irrespective of his parental background as long as a child is in public school, headteachears of every school will be considered captured and registered, on the record in Borno there’s about 2000 cooks they will also be captured some parents will also be captured biometrically all these processes are to ensure those who deserve to be fed in schools are trully fed”.
The Director further said, ” the good news about the Borno State school feeding Enumeration exercise, we have been allowed to capture the Sangaya school children , we also want to enroll the IDP children since they are having a form of education we intend to take this exercise to them in such a way that many will benefit from it.
In response to that the Borno State Governor Professor Babagana Umara Zulum who was represent by his chief of staff Professor Isa Hussain Marte said, the flagging off ceremony for enumeration of National home grown school feeding programme is no doubt significant and will enhance teaching and learning across the state at primary school level.
” Education is and will always be one of the topmost priority this administration”.
” If you look at the 25 years development plan and 10 years transformation initiative of his Excellency education is prominately there, both at primary, Secondary and tertiary levels. The National home grown school feeding programme has greatly increased pupils Enrollment in our schools and their performance towards school activities has also been enhanced therefore these intervention has gone down to the targeted groups receiving great results”.
