Nigeria Hosts Historic Wrestling Team At MKO Abiola Stadium

Nigeria’s victorious wrestling contingent from the 2026 African Wrestling Championships in Egypt, were presented to the First Lady, Sen. Remi Tinubu, during the Power of 10 Million Women event at the MKO Abiola National Stadium in Abuja.

The team, which secured a historic 15th African women’s wrestling title alongside podium finishes in the men’s category, was led by the President of the Nigeria Wrestling Federation and Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Customs Service, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, MFR.

Earlier received at the National Sports Commission, the delegation was later presented at the national event celebrating the achievements and impact of Nigerian women and youth across different sectors.

“This achievement once again shows the strength, resilience and dominance of Nigerian wrestling on the African stage,” said NSC Chairman, Shehu Dikko.

“Winning a record 15th women’s title alongside podium finishes in the men’s events is a strong statement by Team Nigeria.”

“Myself and the National Sports Commission commend the athletes, coaches and the Nigeria Wrestling Federation for continuing to raise the country’s flag high and inspiring the next generation of champions across the continent,” he said.

“Indeed we sincerely applaud the 1st Lady of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and Mother of the Nation Senator Oluremi Tinubu CON for appreciating and motivating the girls and always standing for Nigerian Women.”
