Team Nigeria Wins Bronze In Women’s 4x100m Event
Team Nigeria’s quartet of Praise Ofoku, Favour Ofili, Anita Taviore and Tima Godbless clinched the Bronze medal in the Women’s 4x100m event, running a time of 43.90s at the U20 World Athletics Championships in Nairobi, Kenya.
Jamaica ran a World U20 Record of 42.94s to win Gold in the event, while Namibian Christine Mboma claimed Silver in spectacular fashion in a time of 43.76s.
It could have been Silver for Nigeria, however, Mboma ran up the track with blistering pace to snatch second place.
Men’s 4x100m
Team Nigeria’s male counterparts in the 4x100m category, represented by Udodi Onwuzurike, Godson Brume, Akekalu Fakorede and Nicholas Mabilocame close to winning Gold in the event.
However, a faulty baton exchange between the individual 200m Gold medallist, Onwuzurike and Brume in the last exchange led to Nigeria not finishing the race in the Men’s 4x100m final, as Brume stumbled.
Team members Fakorede and Mabilo both ran well during the opening and second leg. South Africa ran a World U20 Record of 38.51s to win Gold, while Jamaica got the Silver.
