Committee laments Ondo civil servants’ disobedience to COVID-19 protocols
The Chairman of Ondo Inter-ministerial Committee on COVID-19, Adesegun Fatusi, has decried the rate at which the state civil servants are not observing the COVID-19 protocols in their offices. He said such an attitude would further spread the deadly disease among the people of the state, stressing that the new Delta variant of the disease was real and deadlier.

The chairman,Fatusi, who is also the Vice-Chancellor of University of Medical Sciences, Ondo, disclosed this while addressing some senior civil servants, on Monday.
He said the state had recorded 35 new COVID-19 cases in the last 24 hours (as of Monday), stating that the report came from the National Centre for Disease Control.
The don also disclosed that the state isolation centres had currently admitted seven persons. He declared that his committee had begun a media campaign TO sensitise the people of the state that the second wave of the COVID-19 was ongoing, hence the need for them to follow the rules and safety protocols.
He said, “We have recorded about 35 cases in the last 24 hours. We have so far recorded 70 death in the state. That is why we should always observe the COVID-19 protocols. We could observe that our civil servants don’t use facemasks again. Civil servants don’t observe the COVID-19 protocols again in their offices.
“There will be no civil service when people are dying. So the civil servants should make it a duty for visitors to wear a face mask. Let us do our part in the battle.
“There have been COVID-19 related deaths in the state. An associate of mine died at FMC, Owo. Once we see a little rise in the hospital it suggests a rise in the community.” He added.
He, however, ruled out the possibility of the state government locking down the state, as a measure to curb the spread of the disease.
Fatusi insisted that the best measure was to ensure that everybody was sensitised to observe the COVID-19 protocols, urging the people of the state to always wear their face masks as well as wash their hands regularly.
“Lockdown is a double-edged sword, particularly for developing countries. When we have a lockdown, the massive economic implication is significant,” the don submitted.
